Records and receipts – what to keep
A limited company must keep accounting records that explain all money received and spent, plus the supporting documents: invoices, receipts, bank statements, contracts, orders and delivery notes.
- Keep them for at least 6 years from the end of the financial year they relate to (longer in some cases, e.g. an HMRC check).
- Not keeping adequate records can lead to a fine of up to £3,000 or director disqualification.
Upload each receipt to its entry in Books. The To do list on the dashboard shows expenses without a receipt. Photos are fine if they are readable.
